Why?
Competition, Flexibility, Investment
Most solicitor’s practices are still run as partnerships and whilst they continue to enjoy success, the Legal Services Act will change the landscape for traditional law firms as the market is ‘opened up’ to new entrants.
New entrants will bring new approaches and influences. They will bring with them more sophisticated marketing techniques, larger marketing budgets, extensive existing client bases, existing brand recognition, and well established avenues for raising capital for future investment.
The new entrants will be established companies who seek to extend the services they offer to include legal services. They maybe insurance companies, financial services providers or perhaps even supermarkets.
They will bring a level of competition to the legal services market that has not been seen before and will inevitably have the effect of driving out of business poorly run solicitors firms and driving down prices for clients.
The greatest challenges for existing firms will be to be able to compete within the more competitive marketplace, establish brand recognition of their own and to maintain acceptable levels of customer service at a reduced cost to the client.
We are preparing for the new entrants. We already offer legal services at a very competitive cost to the client and have a reputation for good communication and client care. By creating a limited company to deliver our legal services we are looking to take advantage of the opportunities and benefits that limited companies will enjoy in the legal services market.
We believe that the areas most affected by new entrants into the legal sector will relate to relatively straight-forward process driven transactions such as remortgage work. We are treating those business streams which are likely to be most affected differently as the nature of the competition will be different.
We will be able to compete with the new entrants on a level footing. We will be able to maximise the benefits of investing profits, encourage and facilitate external investment into the company and look to involve those looking to get involved in the delivery of legal services to their customers the opportunity to associate with us.
What legal services will be moved to ison harrison Ltd?
Each service will continue to run alongside those within the partnership.
How will it effect clients?
In all honesty there are no benefits to clients – similarly there are no downsides either.
Clients will hardly notice the difference.
The moving home, remortgage, and commercial debt collection teams will operate and be managed in exactly the same way. Contact numbers and addresses are the same.
The letterhead will change. The service won’t.
Who Cares?
We do.
The change is a good example of our business values and objectives in action (5 year business plan).
The change in structure will allow us to continue to build our business and deliver high quality service in an increasingly competitive market.
We will not be left behind –change for the right reasons will ensure that we will not be.
