Prison Law advice

Rajan Mawji
Raj was called to the Bar of England and Wales and published as a Barrister in 2003. Upon qualification he has specialised in prison law, working particularly with life sentenced prisoners. He has a considerable case load of IPP prisoners and is very robust in his approach. He is passionate about prisoner’s rights and aspires to the view that they should never be classed as second class citizens solely because of their deeds. He holds the ethos that the prime role of penology is to re-habilitate and a prisoner should not be kept incarcerated longer than necessary.
Before joining Harrison Bundey he undertook criminal appeal work, and fought many miscarriage of justice cases. Raj has had several convictions overturned by the court of appeal.
