Summer is upon us once again and we have quickly built-up a packed-out calendar of events across our network of satellite branches in the Yorkshire area.
Here is a rundown of our summer events, where we will be sponsoring and/or attending various shows and activities. We’d love to see you there!
Otley Show – May 20th
Our summer season started towards the end of May, with our regular visit to the Otley Show on May 20th. The first ever Otley Show was recorded in 1796, and not surprisingly it is now the oldest one-day agricultural show in the country. Sarah Laughey from our Family Law department was joined by Ison Harrison partners Erin Johnson and Graham Roberts on our stall at the Otley Show. We also brought along our fun cow-milking game which formed a successful part of last year’s Great Yorkshire Show.
Pudsey Carnival – May 20th
On the same weekend, Dan Holah and his Pudsey team were exhibiting at the Pudsey Carnival, which is an event which dates back to 1898. Our Pudsey branch have attended since we opened our local office in 2017, and we had a stall at the carnival which included a chocolate tombola and helped to fundraise for the Pudsey Community Project.
Ison Harrison Business Networking Event – York – June 21st
Our York branch have started a quarterly networking event held at the Pitcher & Piano bar in York. This ticketed early evening event combines a quiz with networking opportunities, which enables the business community to meet, have fun and make some important and beneficial connections. Our last event in March was a great success, and like that one, June’s event will be raising funds for The Snappy Trust, a small charity for helping children, based in York.
Pat’s Party – June 24th
Pat’s Party is a popular summer music festival which has been hosted in Ilkley since 2004. Pat’s Party is a community fundraising group established in response to an unfolding humanitarian crisis nearly 20 years ago. It was the brainchild of Pat Evans who wanted to make a difference but sadly passed away before the second party, which her friends promised they would continue with as part of her legacy. Since this time Pat’s Party has raised over £150,000 for Save the Children and other local causes. Our conveyancing specialist and manager of our Ilkley, Otley and Guiseley branches, Nigel Cowley, will be at the event and we are very proud to sponsor such a great event and a wonderful story.
Burley-in-Wharfedale Cricket Club Lashings Event – 30th June
The Lashings Xl is a world-famous team of ex-cricket stars who raise money for great causes by playing local cricket teams all over the country. The 2023 squad includes cricket legends such as Sir Curtly Ambrose, Devon Malcolm, John Emburey, Hugo Hammond, Andrew Caddick, Faisal Iqbal, Adam Hollioake and Courtney Walsh. The Lashings Xl first played Burley-in-Wharfedale in 2019 and this has now become a regular fixture. Fundraising goes towards a number of local causes, and several members of our Ilkley branch will be attending in support of our sponsorship of this unique event.
Ilkley Grammar School Colour Rush – 2nd July
COVID delayed the first ever Ilkley Grammar School Colour Rush, but the inaugural event finally took place in 2022, raising £4000. The event is a series of running and sports competitions trademarked by the safe use of coloured powder paint. It’s a messy but very colourful business, with 325 participants last year, when Ison Harrison also sponsored the event. Funds go towards a number of initiatives at the school including mental health projects.
Ilkley Half Marathon – 16th July
This will be the fourth Ilkley Half Marathon, and Ison Harrison have sponsored and helped to organise this event for the last few years. We will have a stall in the Event Village and our Ilkley team will be well represented. It is expected there will be around 4000 runners for the event (including a team of Ison Harrison staff) organised by the Ilkley Roundtable, who select a number of worthy fundraising causes each year.
Great Yorkshire Show – 11th – 14th July
The Great Yorkshire Show welcomes 140,000 people to its 250-acre showground each year, and this year’s event is the 164th such occasion. The biggest agricultural show in the country is easily the showpiece event of our summer calendar. We attended the show in 2022 and caused quite a stir with our cow-milking game plus we gave out free sweets, which certainly attracted a crowd. We have now thrown down the gauntlet and are aiming to take a new and improved cow-milking game to the show in 2023 along with a Name The Cow prize draw which will be fundraising for The Trussell Trust. Plus, we’re also going to be giving away some very special Ison Harrison branded sunglasses, named the ‘Isonnies’! They are sure to be the must have fashion accessory of the summer, if we do say so ourselves! Keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels for photos.
To ensure we last the pace of what will be a mammoth event, we will have a rotating line-up of Ison Harrison team members over the four-day show, which will include our managing director Jonathan Wearing.
