We proudly became an employee-owned law firm at the beginning of 2022.

We were one of only a handful of law firms in the UK to do so and one of the very first to become exclusively employee-owned.  In doing so we have carved out a niche place in the legal sector which has resonated with clients and colleagues alike.

What is an Employee Owned Business?

An Employee Ownership Trust (also known as an Employee Owned Business) aims to benefit all the company’s employees through indirect ownership of shares. The business is owned by a Trust which requires the firm to be run ethically, for the benefit of employees and in a way that delivers a level of client care that is second to none.

There are many advantages for Ison Harrison being an employee-owned business set up in this way.  We benefit from greater innovation, improved performance, employee engagement, loyalty commitment. Our colleagues make us who we are, and we believe that by rewarding everyone equally when the firm does well is key in growing a trusted and strong law firm. Every individual plays their part in the story of Ison Harrison.

For our clients, this means you can continue to expect the same high level of client care and legal advice, together with a more collaborative, forward-thinking approach from our experts. Being part of an employee-owned business gives our teams an opportunity to lead by ideas and results, as well as sharing in the financial successes of the firm.

Being one of the first 100% employee-owned law firms in the UK, we aim to lead by example and create a workplace where everyone feels valued and part of something they can influence and personally benefit from as well as giving a platform for delivering further growth and success for the firm as we extend across the county.

Our management structure has evolved too, with five new directors appointed in line with this move to being employee-owned, and we proudly welcomed James ThompsonGareth NaylorJenny BlandSarah Laughey and Richard Coulthard to the existing Board.

The three former owners continue as directors with Jonathan Wearing remaining as Managing Director with Richard Timperley and Dominic Mackenzie, remaining as Finance Director and Head of Private Client respectively.

As The Yorkshire law firm, we are proud to be able to say that we are a 100% employee-owned business.  We now aim to be the leading firm in the region where people want to work as well as where clients choose to go for advice and assistance.
