The sun was shining on Monday 12th June when 4 members of our Clinical Negligence team spent the day volunteering at S.N.O.O.P to help them update and improve their outdoor children’s play area.

S.N.O.O.P. are a registered charity based in Bradford, who provide services ranging from before and after school care, play schemes, young adults care, youth clubs and a safe places scheme, alongside providing support for parents and carers. Members range from nursery school children to adults in their 40’s with disabilities and complex health needs. S.N.O.O.P have a growing team of support staff who are all dedicated to providing the best care for their members.

S.N.O.O.P.’s vision is for a society where people with learning disabilities and their parents and carers feel valued, supported, and enabled to have a good life, with the same chances and opportunities that any other person would have. Their mission is to give personalised support by providing a wide range of services which aim to meet each individual’s need. Every member is accepted for who they are, and the team works together to provide a safe, enjoyable environment for everyone.

Supporting Local Charities

Abi and Tom from our Clinical Negligence team have been working closely with S.N.O.O.P.  to build a relationship and gain a better understanding as to how Ison Harrison can support them and their members. Supporting local charities and giving back to the community we work in is one of our key values at Isons and we love to see how our positive contributions can help others.

We were invited by S.N.O.O.P to help them improve their outdoor area which is very popular with their members. Abi and Tom were joined by Victoria and Holly and together with volunteers from S.N.O.O.P’s staff, they carried out tasks such as painting furniture and fences, dismantling an old trampoline and building a new one, mowing and strimming the lawn, building a bench, general DIY and cleaning and revamping the sandpit. Everyone worked together as a team, and it was great to see the progress that had been made as they sat down with a well-earned ice pop at the end of the day.

Positive Impact

The children were excited to explore the outdoor area once they arrived and they immediately went to test out their new playground. It’s safe to say that the hard work paid off and the improvements were a big hit. Outdoor spaces such as this provide S.N.O.O.P’s members with a space to blow off some steam or sit in the sun and relax, whilst remaining safe and benefiting from being outdoors.

The work that S.N.O.O.P does, and the services they provide, are inspiring. Every member of staff goes the extra mile to ensure their members are given the tools to thrive and feel valued in society. S.N.O.O.P rely on donations and fundraising to be able to provide the resources their members need, such as sensory toys, outdoor toys, art and craft materials which enables them to engage with the world around them. The help of our volunteers was much appreciated by S.N.O.O.P and the day left Abi, Tom, Victoria and Holly feeling fulfilled.

What’s next?

Ison Harrison will continue to support this wonderful charity. The next event we will be involved with is their summer fair on the 12th August where we will be hosting a stall. There will be craft stalls, games, tombola, BBQ, entertainment and more. The summer fair is at Newlands Inspire Business Park and entry is £1, which includes entry into the raffle prize draw. It would lovely to see some friendly faces so please do pop over and say hello if you’re attending.

In the meantime, Tom is undertaking one of the UK’s longest hiking trails to raise money for the charity. He will be walking over 198 miles with his trusty hound, Hector as he travels Coast to Coast, from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire.
