Anna Higham
Partner
Anna is a Partner and works in the Clinical Negligence Department at our Leeds office.
Anna is a partner and an experienced clinical negligence solicitor specialising in high value, complex claims. She is described as a “first class” partner and praised for “combining a thorough and effective approach to cases with an approachable and friendly manner which puts clients at ease” in the legal directories. She acts in a variety of cases including those involving delays in diagnosing spinal injuries, such as fractures or abscesses; delays in treating meningitis or sepsis; misdiagnoses or mistreatment of strokes; surgical negligence; complex and catastrophic orthopaedic injuries. Anna represents children including those injured at birth or during the neonatal period. Anna particularly enjoys representing elderly clients who have suffered life-changing injuries. Anna has extensive experience representing clients who lack the capacity to conduct litigation.
After undertaking her degree at Nottingham University, Anna returned home to Leeds embark on her legal career. Anna qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and has spent the majority of her career in Leeds. Anna joined Ison Harrison in January 2026 after a three year period working in Manchester, and she is delighted to be back working in her home city once more.
Anna thrives on medically and legally complex cases. As one market commentator said, “She is really bright and smart; she does really complex work and she’s not frightened of a difficult case. She doesn’t mind going to trial, she is always ready to bring it on. She’s not frightened to bring novel arguments.” Anna has been instructed on multiple occasions by clients to take over conduct of their claim from non-specialist firms where very little progress has been made and is committed to raising awareness of the pitfalls of instructing solicitors who lack the necessary knowledge and expertise to conduct complex, high value clinical negligence claims.
The best part of the job for Anna is resolving a claim and restoring someone’s quality of life – putting together a compensation package which enables an injured person to reclaim their pre-injury identity and rebuild their life. A clinical negligence solicitor is a unique and privileged role requiring compassion, insight and professionalism – we enter people’s lives at their worst moments, guiding them through complex legal terminology and systems and helping them navigate the ups and downs that years-long litigation inevitably brings whilst they and their loved ones are simultaneously trying to come to terms with injury or bereavement. Anna’s feedback from clients has included: “My family and I will never be able to adequately express our incredible gratitude for your compassionate, empathetic, consistent, professional expert advice and support across many years with the best outcome under terrible circumstances.” ; “Anna has shown such empathy for A’s position and has acted with high integrity throughout. We have been extremely grateful for her support especially as she has seemed to have instinctively known how we might react to particular situations and anticipated this in advance to alleviate our concerns.”
Outside of work, Anna is busy with her two young children, and when time allows, enjoys reading a good novel or playing the piano.
