Miss X who is now just 17 years old suffered sexual abuse between the age of 9 and 11 at the hands of her friend’s grandfather. She did not report the abuse to anyone for a number of years and in turn carried that pain alone throughout her early teen years.

Despite being very intelligent, she has been unable to continue with her education due to her poor mental health and has been admitted to hospital on numerous occasions.

Ison Harrison were able to assist Miss X in pursuing a claim for compensation from the government’s Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority Scheme.

The CICA initially awarded Miss X the sum of £3,300.00 for the abuse suffered. An application for the decision to be reviewed was made on the basis that she was continuing to suffer with her mental health. The CICA responded with an increased offer of £6,200.00 on the basis she had suffered a disabling mental injury lasting between 2 and 5 years.

Ison Harrison assisted Miss X with pursuing a hearing to the First Tier Tribunal Service and she was subsequently awarded the sum of £44,755.20. This was made up of £22,000.00 for a permanent disabling mental injury and a further £22,755.20 for future loss of earnings.

If you have been the victim of childhood abuse, you may be entitled to compensation.
