Mr R was a victim of a serious unproved attack to his face with a meat cleaver leaving a significant noticeable and measurably disfiguring scar and was awarded £11,000 for a serious disfigurement.

Under the 2012 scheme this allows an award to be made for significant or serious scarring.  For scarring to be considered significant it must be noticeable and measurably disfiguring and easily visible to a reasonable observer.

Serious scarring is considered to be clear and obvious disfigurement where the cosmetic effect is very disfiguring. Scarring is assessed at a time when the wound has fully healed.

If you have been the victim of a serious assault, you may be entitled to compensation.
