We are proud to announce we have been shortlisted for two awards at the upcoming Yorkshire Legal Awards, which is to be hosted in October.

After picking up the award for Law Firm of the Year (Medium) in 2022, we have been selected amongst eight other potential winners for the award for a second-year running. Meanwhile, we have also been shortlisted for the Corporate & Commercial Firm of the Year award, along with seven other finalists.

The Yorkshire Legal Awards is a key date in the region’s legal calendar and brings together the whole legal community to celebrate the outstanding talent amongst us. The awards have been running since 2000 and with our ever-increasing presence across the Yorkshire region, at Ison Harrison we are extremely proud to have been recognised.

Huge growth over the last 12 months

In being shortlisted for the general Law Firm of the Year (Medium) award for a second time, we believe this is testament to our positive direction and growth following our move to become an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Jonathan Wearing, our Managing Director, was instrumental in the business becoming one of the first law firms in the UK to become an EOT in 2022. This has seen vast organisational improvements over the last 12 months with turnover figures 15% above target across the business so far in 2023, following on from a record-breaking 2022.

It is also fantastic that the relentless growth of our Corporate & Commercial team has been acknowledged amongst the awards’ nominees. Turnover in our Corporate & Commercial department was up by 67% in the 12 months between December 2021 and December 2022, but the rapid development hasn’t stopped there. In 2023 so far we can record a 78% increase in turnover, compared to the same period last year.

This flourishing growth has been nurtured by the arrival of new personnel in the department, with the head count now totalling 29 people. Our Corporate & Commercial team is headed up by Richard Coulthard who joined us in 2019 and is now a director. Richard brought a wealth of experience with him and specialist knowledge in areas such as corporate and commercial law, litigation and dispute resolution and associated employment related issues.

Black tie awards hosted by TV celebrity

We look forward to attending the Yorkshire Legal Awards, which will be taking place on October 5th. The black tie event is being held at the New Dock Hall, adjacent to the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, and is being hosted by TV celebrity Helen Skelton.

As a leading Yorkshire law firm and the most accredited law firm in Yorkshire, it is important that we continue to grow our presence in the region and stand by our commitment to our people. With 19 branches across the region we are continually developing and we are delighted to be shortlisted at the Yorkshire Legal Awards this year.
