Racial Discrimination Solicitors
The Equality Act 2010 provides nine ‘protected characteristics’ with race being one of these protected characteristics. As such, any form of discrimination in the workplace with regards to race, which includes: colour, nationality, ethnic origin and national origin, is unlawful and may result in you being able to bring a legal claim against the offending party.
If you believe that you have been unfairly discriminated against on the grounds of race whilst at your workplace, it is imperative that you speak to a specialist solicitor as soon as possible in order to be fully advised of your legal rights and as to whether you can bring an action against your employer or the person discriminating against you.
If you are subject to racial discrimination at your workplace from another employee, your employer should take reasonable steps to prevent this taking place. If your employer fails to do so, your employer together with the offending employee may be liable for discrimination.
In successful racial discrimination cases, an Employment Tribunal will normally make an award of compensation, however, they could make a declaration as to your rights and/or make a recommendation.
If you believe that you have been subject to racial discrimination in the workplace and would like to speak to a specialist solicitor, you can speak to a member of our Employment Department on 0113 284 5023. Alternatively, you can e-mail Yunus Lunat, the Head of our Employment Department directly.
