From June, specialist civil courts are to be known as the “Business and Property Courts of England and Wales”. An umbrella name for specialist business courts, it will incorporate the High Court’s specialist work, namely:

The Commercial Court (dealing with cases such as contract/ business disputes);

The Technology and Construction Court; and The Chancery Division (which focuses upon matters such as competition and insolvency).

Leeds is one of five additional venues( the High Court being based in London), in an update designed to ‘preserve the familiar practices and procedures of these courts, whilst allowing for more flexible cross-deployment of judges with suitable expertise and experience to sit on appropriate business and property cases…..

……The new arrangements will enhance the connection between the specialist Business and Property work undertaken in the regions and in London.

The fact that Leeds is one of the initial venues to be selected is further confirmation of its status in terms of legal innovation- as well as recognition of the high quality work carried out.
