Jonathan Wearing issues this stark warning on the back of amendments to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act.

“It is clear that some personal injury departments are ignoring the changes, operating at a loss and as a consequence clients are starting to suffer.

Locally we have seen well established firms like Walker Morris make huge staff reductions in response to the changes.

However, when firms reduce the number of lawyers it stands to reason that the workload for the remaining staff will increase, as would the time to settle a case. Problems can often arise when a case moves from one lawyer to another.

You have to feel sorry for both the firms who are impacted not just by changes in legislation, and of course the clients who are entirely the victim of circumstance.”

“If you have an existing personal injury claim I would strongly suggest you speak to your lawyer as soon as possible and air your concerns.”
